So you want to write for our 'zine?  No problem!  Just follow the rules and procedures below.

Guidelines:

  • We do not accept any writing that is pornographic, exceedingly violent, or discriminatory on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, or national origin.
  • By submitting, you have accepted our rules
  • Non-English works are welcome as long as they have an English translation.
  • We are looking for very creative pieces- journal excerpts, poetry, and art work.
  • We do not pay authors for their work, but offer exposure to publishers and a variety of readers.
  • Work involving sexual content or profanity will only be permitted if the editors judge the content to be purely artistic; we're not out to destroy the first amendment, we promote it.  However, we want this to be a professional site.
  • Submission acceptance based upon these guidelines is at the discretion of the editors.
  • We don't accept any kind of research papers, even though they can be creative.  Introspective essays, or paper summaries, are welcome.
  • We actively search and accept writing that concerns college life, human rights, animal rights, the arts, non-profit organizations or clubs, civil rights, women's rights, and any good cause.  We will also accept lots of personally reflective material.
  • Can a reader take something really important from this work?  This is the most important guideline.  If a reader can learn something, or become enlightened in some way, you have written a good piece.
  • Fiction, poetry, art, music, and other artistic media are valid submissions.
  • Authors retain ALL rights to works published and submitted to our site.  We acquire only one-time publishing rights.
  • For the sake of time, we cannot accept writing that goes beyond 10 single-spaced Word 97 pages, however, you may submit part of a longer manuscript if you are interested in us publishing it as part of a series.  This particularly applies to serial fanfiction.
  • For whatever reason, we will remove your writing from a current issue within 1 week of your notification for us to do so.  However, we are unable to remove your work from previous editions of 79*WPM.

How To Submit:

  • Due to the risk of virus infection, we can't accept attatchments.  Please paste your work onto an e-mail document.  You are responsible for formatting your own work.  E-mail your work to  seventyninewpm .
  • Please include the following: Your real name (we will not publish this if you don't want us to), your pen name, an e-mail address (that will be displayed next to your name, so that others may contact you), and a web site (if applicable).  You may link to another article at a different 'zine, or another website that promotes your writing, such as writtenbyme.com.
  • We'll notify you once we receive your work.  If we're busy, we won't have time to review it right away, but we'll send notification that we got it.  You will later be informed as to whether or not your piece was accepted.
  • If you would like, you can include an optional biography to be displayed on your site, but please make it brief.  You may also include a photo or an image, but you will have to send a link to the image, as we cannot download it.
  • If you'd like general updates on the 'zine, send an email to  79wpmupdate-subscribe
  • If you'd like submission topics and deadlines, send an email to  79wpmcontrib-subscribe
