Fastweb.com:
Finding
College
Scholarships
Fast
FastWeb.com is an essential resource for finding college scholarships.
As
a current English major, I was having difficulty locating scholarships
for
students that were already enrolled in college. FastWeb put this concern
to rest, returning 18 relevant searches.
Two of them, of course, were advertisements. However, this
comprehensive site needs to make money somehow, so I can't fault them
too much for the ads. The ads were also clearly marked as "special
offers," not masked as scholarships. The only seethingly annoying ads I
encountered were the credit card ads. Imagine what kind of things such
ads could do to naive students? Ouch. Then they'll really need a
scholarship.
The results are instant, and there is an option to be alerted when new
applicable scholarships arrive. There is even a search option for
internships, and a comprehensive resource on job and college advice.
However, when the results come in and you read them, they are marked
as "read." If you opt to "remove this result from my list," it will come
back,
along with the read ones, as new during your next new search. This is
frustrating. FastWeb should offer an easier way to keep track of what you
have read and applied for.
A great feature offered by FastWeb is the form letter. On applicable
scholarships, you click a link and it makes a printer-friendly form, with
which you can send info to the scholarship offerer. It includes their name
and address and yours, in proper letter format. There is also an option
to
customize your letter in case you want to make it more personal.
FastWeb also provides the maximum amount of information available about
any given scholarship.
While FastWeb's resources appear to be the best and most legitimate
around, a few slight hangups allow it to fall a bit short of making it
perfect.
